2001-2002
Lyn Löwenstein | Mick Peter | Stephen Skrynka | Kirsty Whiten
Scheming was a six-month initiative run by the Collective in collaboration with the residents of Dumbiedykes, Holyrood, Edinburgh. Four artists, selected by the residents from a shortlist drawn up by a selection committee, worked with individuals from Dumbiedykes to offer them access to contemporary artists and engagement in the production of art and its process.
A working space and a gallery was identified on site, which was used by the artist and the residents for installing exhibitions, managing the openings and the media, and deciding on opening hours.
Scheming was a process-led project with an emphasis on the artist's engagement with residents. Outcomes included portraits of residents by Kirsty Whiten, a newspaper and design competition by Lyn Löwenstein, a video installation and Movable Feast menu by Stephen Skyrnka and a text piece and festival by Mick Peter.
