Primary 6 pupils from Abbeyhill and Leith Walk Primaries have been working with artist Holly White to create an exhibition about their classroom.
Starting with an imagined future where classrooms no longer exist, the pupils were tasked describing their classroom experience to people in the future. To do this, the pupils have been acting as archaeologists; gathering objects, recording audio and documenting stories from their school to create this ‘collective memory’. For this project, the pupils were inspired by L’Atelier de l’Observatorire’s The Collective Museum exhibition at Collective in December.
Since 2015 Collective has been working closely with Abbeyhill and Leith Walk Primary Schools to bring artists together with teachers and pupils. Each year pupils visit exhibitions at Collective and make art together, using the act of observing as a starting point for creative exploration. More infomation here.
