Collective is delighted to be participating in the 2019 Edinburgh International Science Festival. Join us for a series of events which investigate lenses; instruments that correct and expand the frontiers of vision, focus light to form images and (re)produce our perception of the world around us.

For this workshop, artist and curator Lydia Beilby leads a hands-on session for children aged 7+ making abstract animations on celluloid film. Draw, paint, etch and collage directly onto film to create your own mesmerising moving image.

Born in York, England in 1984, Lydia Beilby is a moving image artist, curator and educator. Lydia is a founding member of artists’ collective Screen Bandita, whose expanded-cinema pieces and workshops have been commissioned and performed widely at Film Festivals, galleries and unusual spaces around the UK and Europe. Lydia has held the position of Short Film Programmer for Edinburgh International Film Festival since 2010, and further to this has taught workshops and courses on experimental filmmaking, archives, cinema and memory at the University of Edinburgh, The Fruitmarket Gallery, Battersea Arts Centre, Alchemy Film Festival and Labor Berlin.

£4 per child.

Please note: due to limited capacity in our Learning Space, parents and carers are asked to drop-off children at the beginning of the workshop and to join us for a sharing moment during the final 10 minutes of the session.
