Mark Bleakley

7 May – 19 June 2016

Exhibitions Satellites

Mark Bleakley works across dance and visual art. His practice explores the body as a site for analysis and reflection, which frequently manifests as live performance and video. A Nude Descends into a Lump was developed by Mark as part of Satellites Programme 2016 and looks at the relationship between bodies, the cinematic and sculptural form.

Using the gallery as a site for performance, four dancers developed an intimate and cyclical work built from a simple score devised by the artist. Through a series of repeated actions, gestures and movements, the body was considered in relation to traditional sculptural processes and the break down of physical forms over time. A Nude Descends into a Lump also included an audio work featuring spoken actions that invite visitors to imagine performances taking place in the park surrounding Collective.
