Free Instruments For Teenagers: Record Launch was a one off music performance in Collective’s City Dome. Bringing together the bands formed during Ross Sinclair’s exhibition 20 Years of Real Life, this event was a celebration to launch a vinyl sampler of new songs by the bands and Ross.
Free Instruments for Teenagers was a co-production between young people and the artist Ross Sinclair that gave away instruments to people born in the last 20 years in order to form new bands. The bands worked with Collective and Ross through a series of workshops and mentoring sessions with invited artists and musicians, to write, record and perform new music.
Collective worked in partnership with the youth music initiative at Canongate Youth to provide ongoing support for the bands helping them write and record original tracks for the vinyl.
The three bands who took part in Free Instruments for Teenagers were:
Appear Invisible
Bedroom Athlete
Enemy Fire
