Announcing the artists for Time + Space 2026!

We are delighted to announce the participants of our new early-career artists’ programme, Time + Space following our recent open call and selection process.

Combining learning and professional development with group and solo exhibition opportunities, this annual open programme offers artists at the beginning of their careers support to make and present new work, and to engage with audiences.

Time + Space offers two possible routes designed to suit different levels of experience, resulting in a solo show in the summer and group show for four artists in the autumn.

This year’s group exhibition artists were selected by artist Alberta Whittle and Seán Elder. The solo exhibition artist was selected by artist Aqsa Arif and Adam Benmakhlouf.

Solo Exhibition | 10 July – 13 September 2026

Richard Maguire

Richard Maguire was born in Aberdeen, and lives and works in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Primarily working in drawing and sculpture, his practice considers power relations through histories and representations of race and sexuality between Britain and South Asia. Employing processes of theoretical and material assemblage, he seeks to negotiate popular representations of these histories and explore how they recur within the present.

Maguire graduated from The Glasgow School of Art with a Master of Fine Arts specialising in Printmaking in 2018. He also studied at The Royal Drawing School in 2015 and The Gray’s School of Art in 2013. Maguire has featured in The Drawing Biennial both in 2026 and 2024, and was awarded The Founder’s Choice Award at The Ingram Prize, and an Early Career Artist Award by Edinburgh Art Festival, both in 2023.

Group Exhibition | 9 October – 20 December 2026

Abi Lewis

Abi Lewis is a visual and performance artist from Wales who lives and works in Edinburgh. Working with a wonky aesthetic, she is fascinated by the everyday and the ritualistic power of physical objects, natural oddities, and folkloric narrative. Their work repurposes discarded materials that have been hoarded, adopted, gifted, or gathered, forming narratives through painting, performance, and sculpture. Through playful self-performative portraits and soft indelicate sculptures, Lewis’ practice investigates themes related to identity and the self.

Lewis is founder and committee member of Sett Studios, a collectively run, independent, non-hierarchical artist-led studios with dedicated gallery space in Leith. Supporting marginalised artists from socially and financially disadvantaged backgrounds, jointly creating cross-platform exhibitions and events featuring art, music and performance.

Gianni Esporas

Gianni Esporas is an artist and filmmaker based in Glasgow. Her practice stems from utilising hair as an abject material. Interested in what happens when this component is extracted from the source, her practice generates questions around colonial hierarchies, the white gaze, and postcolonial futures.

Esporas graduated from The Glasgow School of Art with an MLitt in Art Writing in 2023, she also holds a BA (Hons) in Contemporary Art Practice, Moving Image from Gray’s School of Art. She has previously shown work at Generator Projects, Spectra Festival and Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival.

Hetal Chudasama

Hetal Chudasama is a visual artist based in rural Scotland. Her practice spans a variety of art forms, materials, and spatial constructs, with a primary focus on creating immersive environments that serve as spaces for observation, introspection, and intimate reflection.

After relocating from India to the UK, Hetal’s current practice reflects a re-establishment within a new geographic and institutional context. Working primarily with woodcut and reclaimed wooden surfaces, she explores how scientific and mythological worldviews are shaped and circulated through printed images.

Chudasama graduated from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, India with a Master of Visual Arts (Fine Arts).

Huss Al-Chokhdar

Huss Al-Chokhdar is an Arab multidisciplinary artist, performer, and filmmaker based in Glasgow. His work explores queerness, memory, and exile, weaving together personal and political narratives that confront displacement, censorship, and survival. Moving across moving image, performance, installation, and sound, his practice creates spaces for fragmented histories and silenced voices, challenging dominant narratives around Arab and diasporic experiences.

Al-Chokhdar graduated from The Glasgow School of Art with a Bachelor of Arts specialising in Sculpture and Environmental Art in 2021. He was LUX Scotland’s Programming Fellow in 2025 and has held programming and curating positions at the Scottish Queer International Film Festival and Refugee Festival Scotland.

Selector Seán Elder, Interim Director of Cubitt, said:

“On behalf of the external jury, I'm really delighted to have been part of a process that led us through so much of the diversity and richness of practices that are developing in Scotland right now. The calibre of applications was remarkable and it meant so much for us to have the privilege to encounter so many thoughtful and incisive proposals. We can't wait to see the results of Collective's work with these artists and how this moment contributes to their ongoing development.”
