We are delighted to announce the participants of Satellites Programme 2019-20, our programme for Scotland-based emerging practitioners.
This year, Alison Scott join us as Associate Producer, Alison will develop and deliver a project over a period of six-months. The four selected Visual Art Practitioners; Kirsty Hendry, Sulaïman Majali, Holly McLean and Becky Šik, will each create new work for a solo exhibition in The Hillside. Alongwith facilitator James N Hutchinson, we look forward to working with and supporting this year’s group, and will announce their exhibitions and events over the next year.
More about the participants:
Alison Scott is an artist based in Glasgow. Her work is research led, with performative, written and collaborative practices as important aspects of the process of exhibition making.
Kirsty Hendry is an artist living in Glasgow who develops projects exploring labour, work, and the body; unpicking their effect upon our sense of selfhood and embodiment. Her works negotiate the slippages between writing and visual practices – ideas are instigated as texts and then expanded into printed matter, video, and sculptural installation as forms of publishing.
Sulaïman Majali is an artist, writer and imposter, their practice interrogates the spatio-temporal logics of the colonial and subsequent incarcerations of futures through a paradigm of object, image and space.
Holly McLean works primarily in film and moving image. Using a documentary approach to research, write, shoot and edit forming narratives that interweave fact and fiction.
Becky Šik is an artist based in Glasgow practice spans installation, film, sculpture, sound, music and publishing.
More about Satellites:
Satellites Programme was specifically developed to facilitate practitioners at a pivotal, emergent moment in their careers. The programme supports the production of new commissions, which can include exhibitions, research projects, installations, sculpture, painting, print, events programmes, critical texts, publications and podcasts. Following the opening of our new home on Calton Hill in 2018, Satellites remains a key strand of our programme, and is now based in our new purpose-built exhibition space The Hillside. Participants will receive funding and close support from Collective and our dedicated facilitator, James N Hutchinson, over one year.
