Young People's Programme

Collective’s programme for young people, in partnership with Edinburgh Young Carers’ 12-15 year old group, creates opportunities for the young people to work together with contemporary artists and other practitioners to explore their creativity in an inclusive and supportive environment.

Since March 2020, the Young Carers have been working together with composer Richy Carey. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown, what began as a process of experimenting with sound and recordings together on site has instead become a remote collaboration over Zoom: playing sound games, collecting recordings, sharing stories and reflecting on the changing world.

Using sci-fi as a lens through which to see their domestic environments differently, the group have been taking photographs and creating soundscapes as a form of evidence-gathering. They are experimenting with ways to bring these documents together in a collective narrative taking place in a surreal world.

Richy Carey is a sound artist and composer based on Skye. In 2019 Richy was Glasgow's UNESCO City of Music Artist in Residence. His work has appeared at many galleries and festivals including Glasgow International, Glasgow Film Festival, Hidden Door Festival, Edinburgh, and Images Festival, Toronto. He is currently studying for a PhD at the University of Glasgow.
