Moyna Flannigan
Space Shuffle
We were delighted to welcome back renowned Scottish artist, and early committee member Moyna Flannigan to present an exhibition of new work in our 40th year.
Flannigan has become known for her paintings that focus on women. Her inspiration is drawn from myth, art history and pop culture, creating work which interweaves visual memories and experiences.
Since her presentation of Tear at part of NOW (2018-19) at the National Galleries of Scotland (NGS), Flannigan has pursued her investigation into the materials and methods of collage.
Created in response to the unique context and architecture of our City Dome gallery, Space Shuffle will feature figurative collages, alongside a constellation of paper sculptures that extend the principles of collage into three dimensional form and space.
Space Shuffle was part of Edinburgh Art Festival (EAF)’s 20th birthday programme, which took place from 9 – 25 August 2024.
The Nelken Line
In August 2024, Moyna Flannigan and artist and choreographer Janice Parker joined forces to devise a special iteration of The Pina Bausch Foundation’s world-wide participatory project. Inspired by Moyna’s exhibition Space Shuffle, and her long-standing fascination with the work of Pina Bausch, the performance took place amongst the historic monuments and panoramic city views of Calton Hill.
